Dr. Dakuku Peterside, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and his G-5 counterparts for advancing what he called their own selfish interests.
According to The Site News, the G-5 Governors are Wike, Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the governor of Enugu State, Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, and Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia State.
Speaking during an interview with Punch, Peterside opined that the aggrieved governors were making a good case at a wrong time.
According to him, if the Peoples Democratic Party successfully clinches the presidency, the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu would naturally vacate his position for a southerner.
Speaking further he argued that it was crystal clear that the ongoing crisis in the party was a decoy to fight a personal battle for selfish interest.
He wondered if Wike would have insisted that Ayu vacates his position if he won the presidential primary.
According to him, “You can make a good case at the wrong time or in the wrong way. It is a no-brainer that after the elections, if the PDP ever succeeds, Ayu would have to go to make way for a southerner to preside over the party.
“However, it is evident that what is going on now is somebody’s decoy to fight a personal battle for his selfish interests. If Wike was given the vice presidential ticket of his party, would he be agitating for Ayu to vacate the office now? These governors cannot think we are all fools. There are ways to engage if you are a true party man. This whole fight is about them and has nothing to do with the interests of Nigeria, Nigerians, or any other region.”
