Ibadan, Oyo state capital and the nation’s third-largest of about 3.5 million people, is fast-becoming perilous in spite of the recurring news of illegal detentions and eventual killings of humans across uncovered hideouts there.
The Police ransacked an illegal torture camp at Ojoo area, the heart of the capital city, where over 250 inmates were rescued and are being rehabilitated.
The Nation collated a few locations that have been uncovered for these inhumane acts in the last four years with their peculiar events:
- Evil forest that made Soka community infamous
Following a tip-off by some commercial cyclists, who suspected the missing of their colleagues, the Police uncovered the dastard ritual killing that was operational in Soka community in March 2014.
Found at evil forest were corpses, malnourished victims who were about to be slaughtered for ritual purposes, mutilated hands and legs as well as human skulls, clothes and properties of dead victims.
Former Governor Abiola Ajimobi ordered the demolition of the evil forest and had since built a stunning school structure named Oyo State Comprehensive Model School at that location.
*Adekile ritualists’ hideout
Another ritualists’ hideout that will evoke memories of horror is at Adekile metropolis in Ibadan, Oyo state.
The underground den was exposed in April 2015 and a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was reported to have lost his life.
It was also gathered that a child, who got missing in the community several days ago, was found in the underground apartment.
- Shrine littered with fake dollars and human exhibits.
In June 2015, a shrine that was later discovered by Oyo State Police Command was busted at to be kidnappers’ den was Isase, Ojoku, in Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state.
Fake dollar notes and exotic cars were discovered at the shrine, which is located in a very remote place, by a team of policemen led by the then State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed Katsina.
Ismail Adesina, 43, a suspect apprehended confessed that they were using the shrine to dupe their victims.
- Torture camp at Ojoo, Ibadan
The latest in the list is the torture camp at Oloore Central Mosque at Ojoo area of Ibadan.
More than 200 inmates regained freedom from the “illegal rehabilitation centre” on Monday, November 4.
Subsequently, Oyo state governor ordered the demolition of the camp and Shina Olukolu, commissioner of police has also said five suspects have been arrested.
