So Sad! Phone repairer hit by Police Van finally dies after 8 months on life support in Bayelsa

According to a report by NewTelegraph, Shedrack Ogbonna, the mobile phone repairer that was hit by a Nigerian Police van on May 6, last year, has finally given up his fight to stay alive at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Ogbonna died on Sunday after allegedly being abandoned by the Force as a result of the accident that damaged part of his brain.

He was knocked down by the police van driving against traffic near Ekeki Motor Park in Yenagoa.

The team of policemen in the van that day had quickly rushed him to the emergency unit of the FMC where it was confirmed that he suffered severe brain damage. He was later transferred to the intensive Care unit.

For the late Shedrack Ogbonna, the doctors taking care of him at the Federal Medical Center in Yenagoa, had told family members that Ogbonna, who was on life support, suffered severe brain damage and needed about N5 million to have a chance to live a normal life again.

When New Telegraph contacted the wife of the late Ogbonna, Felicia, on phone, the woman who could not control her emotions said: “I have not seen this kind of thing before.

“It is only God that has been sustaining me and the children. We have left the hospital and we are somewhere at Ekeki.”

She said the Nigerian Police Force, Bayelsa State Command, initially agreed to take care of the medical bills of her husband but later changed their mind when they learnt that he would need N5million to be flown abroad for brain surgery.

According to her, the Police withdrew their promise to support her family on the grounds that the policemen in the van that knocked him (Ogbonna) were carrying an assignment for the state government at the time and therefore should not be expected to pick up the hospital bills.
