Disappointment appears to have crept into the camp of Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP) followers as a result of his absence from the party’s presidential campaign rally in Yobe State.
According to reports, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed and Peter Obi’s running mate were going to the North-East state as part of their campaign.
According to Daily Trust, the LP presidential campaign train was scheduled to hold a rally at Summit Conference Hotel in Damaturu by 11:00 am.
Obi and his running mate failed to show up despite supporters waiting for hours for the Labour Party candidate at Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Damaturu on Tuesday.
Addressing the supporters, the North East Coordinator, Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Hajiya Hauwa, pleaded with them, saying the postponement of the campaign was not meant to disappoint them.
Labour Party Vows To ‘Sort’ Petrol Subsidy Scam
Meanwhile, during an appearance on Channels Television on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed vowed that his party would “sort” the petrol subsidy “scam” if elected in the forthcoming presidential election.
Naija News gathered that Nigeria has reportedly spent N2.04 trillion to offset subsidy payments in seven months, even as it plans to spend about N6 trillion on subsidy by 2023.
Asked how Labour Party hope to get funds to run the country if elected during an interview on Channels Television, Datti Baba-Ahmed said the party would stop payment of the petrol subsidy.
He stated that the LP administration will deploy Nigeria’s “wasted funds” into healthcare and education if elected.
“In the first 100 days, by the time we sort the problem of fuel subsidy scam and we are able to deploy Nigeria’s wasted funds into healthcare and education, you will begin to feel it,” he said.
